Narrative:
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Albania. She joined the Sisters of Loretto and was sent to Calcutta, India. She taught at the convent high school for nearly twenty years. On 10 September 1946, Mother Teresa heard the message to help the poor. The Missionaries of Charity, the order she founded, celebrate this "inspiration day" annually.

By 1948 Mother Teresa had clothed herself in the white sari with blue border that ultimately became the habit of her order. The streets of Calcutta had become home to thousands displaced by the division of India and Pakistan. Over the years Mother Teresa's work grew to include caring for the destitute and dying, feeding the hungry, sheltering orphans and treating the sick. Today, sisters and brothers continue her work at hundreds of houses around the world.

Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, Mother Teresa saw her work as a work of love for Christ, "in the distressing disguise of the poorest of the poor." Through the eyes of her faith she saw Christians, Muslims, Hindus and all people as God's children. In the humble gift of suffering she perceived us as most Christ like.

Prayer Card:
One of Mother Teresa’s Favorite Prayers
Dear Lord, help me to spread Thy fragrance everywhere I go.
Flood my soul with Thy spirit and life. Penetrate and possess my whole being so
utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of Thine.
Shine through me, and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me butonly Thee O Lord!
Stay with me, and then I shall begin to shine as Thou shinest; so to shine as to be a light to others. Amen.
– John Henry Cardinal Newman

(This prayer is printed on the back of Prayer Cards only.)
